Sherwood worked in the F & M bank during 1945 and 1946. He graduated from BHHS in 1946. He then went on to study at the Feagin School of Drama and Radio at Radio City in New York.  After a year's study, he returned to B.H., and worked in display at J.C. Penney, clerked at the Benton Center Fruit Exchange for a summer and then joined the Navy. After the Navy, he started college, working summer theaters at Ellinee Village Playhouse and the Red Barn Theater of Saugatuck.  He attended Western Michigan, The U. of Oregon, and the U. of Minnesota.  He then worked in several theaters. The Theater-in-the-Round of Mpls/St. Paul, the Edyth Bush Theater of St. Paul, The Guthrie Theater during its first two years, and taught at Macalester College for two years.
 
Sherwood then moved to Chicago in 1967 and joined the staff at Chicago State University for 22 years, teaching, directing and designing before retiring. 
 
Since retirement, he has continued with his art.
